July 16th. It is 12 years with this company and 15 years at this job. Schizophrenia has been good to me, I got my first job before I got sick at age 17 and in between ages 17-19 I had about 15 different jobs and didn’t last more than three months at any of them. My first job after getting diagnosed I lasted 4 years and then I had a few more short jobs and then in 1990 I got a job at HP and worked there three years and my next job after that I worked 4 years. I’ve had about 16 different jobs since I got sick and got fired at half of them. Getting fired never stopped me, I just went out and got new jobs and sometimes I did well and sometimes I didn’t. Now, I wish I could retire, if I could afford to I would. I checked out my cities housing portal and saw a few housing options where if I got one of them my rent would only be 30% of my income. These places are hard to get though, people find them and it’s such a good deal people never leave. I wish I could get one of those places, I saw about 5 places like that and the studios were all bigger than my current place. ---

Those jobs that fired you quit on you, but you have never quit on yourself. Anything else? Find out everything you can about that housing. Ask ChatGPT what’s the best way to get subsidized housing in your city and then do it persistently. I hope that you get that housing and will be able to retire. ---

@77nick77 There’s a lot of things you can do right now. I asked Gemini: to get subsidized housing in [your city], is there anything you can do now besides wait for the waitlist to open and apply? I found a lot of info. I think you’re referring to the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), but that’s a centralized list that can take years before there’s an opening, so the affordable housing system in your county is heavily decentralized. You can apply directly to various portals right now that may have current availability. You may want to ask ChatGPT (or Gemini) the question I asked. ---
