Hey all! Before July 1 this year medicare would only cover GLP-1s for diabetes, sleep apnea or cardiac issues. But if you were obese and had none of that you were out of luck. But now you can get them through medicare drug program for weight loss if your BMI is a certain level or higher. Being on APs, many of us have probably gained weight.
Ironically I got dx with diabetes ON July 1. So anyway. Just throwing this out there. Goggle it for more information if you are interested.

I’m obese,but I don’t want to go on injections (ozempic etc…) ..It’s not fear of needles,just my clozapine .. And if I loose kgs on it,it will return when I quit .
When I was on Risperdal,lost a lot of weight,cause I wasn’t hungry.Even girls started to page me.But slept only 4 hours ..
I wouldn’t give my clozapine serenity.
Like a contenscious perspective perhaps but glad my shrink got me onto champix back in the day to get me off the smokes and also glad he clued me into trying keto before the weight loss drugs.
Like there’s still so much that will happen as we move forward but not keen on the muscle loss and other things you hear but honestly…After 6 months of serious keto I bacically remain lo carb but my congnition and things like motivation are crazily good…
There’s problems with diets for a lot of people for sure. And there’s still so many questions about the weight loss drugs for sure but I’m just saying. I’m staying lo carb and after a hiccup I’m going back into full keto.
It’s dumb but it works for the weight loss which is great…but the mental gains are amazing…but it’s work. Lots of sz people don’t like work.

GLP1s are now covered for obesity related weight loss. This is through Medicare, as the OP stated. Almost everyone who is on SSDI disability payments has access to Medicare through the Medical Assistance program. With this new coverage, the cost is only 50 a month instead of 500-600 out of pocket. All you need is a BMI over 35, AFAIK.
There are many option available which include injections and the new pill they created. So, @Joker , there is also a GLP1 pill covered now.
Overall, Zepbound is the best for weight loss if you factor in pharmacy availability. I lost 80 pounds with it last year. This was all ap related weight I got rid of.
If you want to lose weight and are on Medicare/disability, contact your doctor!!! These meds are a lifesaver to me (literally, my cholesterol and fats are way down in my blood work).
In the uk they restrict who can have it
Basically they intervene when the situation gets impossible

Im 118kg give or take. Weights been same for 7 years virtually. Yea it would be nice to be pre AP weight, but some of its aging weight , and lacking exercise so i just do my best not to gain any. I try eating smaller portions and salads/ soups sometimes. I cant live without choc and stuff occasionally tho Lol

I enjoy certain foods that are bad for you, but it would be tortuous to deny yourself comfort when so little things helps in that department!

I did end up getting a GLP-1. Ironically the first day of the bridge program is the day I first got dx with diabetes.

Question for you or anyone who knows. I stated taking Semaglutide (the generic of Ozempic) and lost some good weight (10lb) after a month. Then, it stopped working and I gained a few pounds. It’s been like this for month or so and I bumped up my units of injection by 50cc. Still can’t lose weight. Is it possible the clozapine won’t allow weight loss? Anyone else lost weight on a Glp-1 despite being on Clozapine? Thanks
