# Had psychotic episode last night

When I went to bed after a long session of reading by candlelight, it was about 23:30.
As I lay down the voices came at me harder and harder. Got out of bed, paced, hyperventilated. Moved to another room, paced, cried, wailed, spoke to voices, told them to leave me alone. Went downstairs to lounge, to kitchen. Almost self harmed but didn’t have the urge. Then I took a PRN lorazepam. Sat down. Spoke to voices again, calmed down. Went upstairs, lay down and finally slept past midnight. Woke up tired.
But now I’m up, it’s 08:43 and I have to face a shopping trip. Ugh. Brain overload!
Want to go to library, that can be a motivation to go out. But if hubby in bad mood like he was this morning, then I don’t know if he’ll let me go today… Otherwise go later in week. I have two books left to read.
Tomorrow I go to hospital to fetch my meds. If I get more psychosis problems, I’ll resume taking haldol again. I have lots of stock in my meds cabinet. Otherwise it’s just amisulpride 400mg for my AP.

Thank you POET. It’s nightfall and I’m worried the voices will start up again…there was a little murmuring in background, they’re trying to get through to me again…
I don’t know what is reason for this little episodes I’m having. I mean, my relapse is over and I was well the last month now, so I doubt a relapse will come again so soon… Maybe I’m taking too little meds or something…I have plenty to take so maybe I’ll increase something or resume haldol…
My reasoning is maybe it will go away on it’s own and the meds aren’t needed. Maybe I’ll take extra meds for nothing. I dunno… But I don’t want another episode tonight!

you doing ok? id just talk to your doc and if they say take more then take more. I think it can take up to 6 months for meds to take full effect sometimes… usually its like 1-2 months but sometimes can take longer, so give it some time… i know its not easy

Thanks POET, it’s morning now. Last night the voices subsided before any episode. But I took 2,5mg haldol and it seemed to work. 6 months?? If my meds took that long to work I’d be in hospital for 6 months but the longest I stayed was one month. My amisulpride takes about three days to work, I’m not sure about the haldol but it’s used for acute psychosis so I guess it’d work sooner too. It seemed to help last night. I’m going to go back to 5mg which I was prescribed.

oh true, yea they take 1 month to work usually, but to reach their full peak it can take longer, cause they have to slowly build up in the body.

@Dika I don’t think you should take meds that the doc is not expecting you to take. If you have talked to the doc about a plan for if any psychosis comes back that’s different. That being said if it’s a true emergency over the weekend especially I think a small dose of haldol could possibly keep you out of the hospital. I am prepared to do the same thing if it’s an emergency. Good luck.
