I wrote an essay yesterday:
Martin Luther King and Desmond Tutu share a core philosophical principal: that human interconnectedness is the antidote to oppression.
Both Nobel laureates are men who shared a vision of the future where humanity lives safely with God.
And both were able to use the Bible to do so.
Why is it so difficult for people to hope for and envision the imancipation and enfranchisement of every human soul? For these two it was not.
Martin Luther King believed that the accelerating change in the world, both technological and economic, had turned the world into a neighborhood and that we needed to change it into a brotherhood. That meant realizing our shared destiny. Every individual mattered to him, because we are inescapably intertwined.
Desmond Tutu believed in a South African philosophy called Ubuntu. This philosophy argues that “I am because we are”. In this regard a criminal element is seen as a self defeating entity, because it hurts itself by hurting the group.
Tutu also believed in vegetarianism for the sake of ending bloodshed on the planet.
What makes their positions so interesting is their innovative moral approach. Non violent and restorative, it argues a cohesive vision for the means by which humanity will end oppression and bring about peace on earth.
What is the source of all the misunderstanding in our world? Oppression seems to stem from perspectives that see humanity as divided into other and self with no real connection between the two. King said “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” This world view addresses the schisms that currently exist.
Both Nobel laureates were great men who understood that love is stronger than any other force on earth or in heaven. They are inspiring and their words will always hold the utmost of weight for me.
Very long text. How do i gonna read it
I have short attention span

It’s cool no worries
I enjoyed it. I bought a philosophy book on ethics and it uses a lot of arguments to push for vegetarianism. Justice is and interesting area in philosophy. I remember you talking about Ubuntu philosophy, sounds interesting. Good writing.
