Say Anything #35

Hey Kiddos.

I didn’t get much sleep last night so I’m kind of running on sparks here.

I had to go to my bank this morning and get more paperwork for my goddamn recertification. I can’t wait until this is all over and they just have me sign my new lease

So now after having some Sonic I’m awake again.

Ayn Rand’s quotes reflect her philosophy of Objectivism. This idea states that every person must live for their own happiness. It values reason and individual rights above all else. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Her most famous quotes, often highlighting themes of individualism and reason, include calls to fight for one’s own happiness and a promise to live for oneself. She emphasized that productive work is essential to a rational life, and that true motivation comes from the desire to achieve rather than surpass others. Additionally, she noted that while one can avoid reality, they cannot escape its consequences.

LOL!

Yes, I did get a stain though on one of my white tees from my cheeseburger so my anus was sort of in danger there for a sec. I got the shirt in the wash now though.

A metaphysical assumption is an underlying, unprovable belief about the fundamental nature of reality. These ideas cannot be tested or proven by science. Instead, they are the unwritten rules and starting points we rely on to make sense of the world, conduct experiments, and make daily decisions. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Why They Matter

  • Foundation of Science: Every scientific experiment assumes there is an objective, external world that exists whether we look at it or not. Science also assumes that nature acts in predictable, uniform ways. You cannot prove these rules in a lab; you must assume them to do the work. [1, 2]
  • Everyday Decisions: In life, you likely assume that other people have minds, that time moves forward, and that you have the free will to make choices. These are all metaphysical assumptions. [1, 2, 3]

Real-World Examples

To understand this concept better, consider these basic examples:

  • The Law of Cause and Effect: We assume that every action or event has a cause. When you flip a light switch, you assume it causes the light to turn on, rather than the light turning on by random chance. [1, 2]
  • Object Permanence: We assume that a building or a forest continues to exist even when we are not looking at it. [1, 2]
  • Personal Identity: We assume that you are the same person today as you were ten years ago, even though your body and brain cells have completely changed. [1, 2]

Metaphysical assumptions are the bedrock of what we consider “common sense”.
