Specifically the disability of mental illness, we would be placed in asylums in awful conditions and wouldnt be considered a person by the government. I am happy to be an American because mental health treatment has made progress.
Nice topic. Treatment of disabled in history is actually a very cringe subject, that someone can read or say the words unaffected itself shows that the weight of history has little effect on anyone. Your post is at least a little reminder of what has gone on.
History of humanity overall is marred with negative experiences. For 295,000 years the average life expectancy was like 35 years old. Death by disease, animals, war, childbirth. We still have a lot of problems we’ve had in the past. Now they’re just compartmentalized to different countries who are still suffering and believe in oddities of the mind. Humanity has come a long way but it’s also still behind.
That’s a deceptive statistic though. The reason the life expectancy was so low was that there were many infant deaths and 1/2 of children died before they were 15 years old. But if you survived childhood you could live to be in your 50’s or 60’s or older. The high infant mortality rate made the life expectancy rate number go down.
Yeah, the mean or average is typically 68 percent of a curve, so the average life expectancy in the U.S. is 76 years old. It’s the mean; some people live longer some less. About 68 percent or more die younger than 76 years old. I agree with what you’re saying some people live longer and yeah statistics.
