So after a month or two without tv during the day and turning on after 6pm I found myself on the pc more at night with my back to the TV screen.
There are few programs that interest me on the TV anymore. They are all much the same. The odd drama, or true crime stuff and the odd comedy, but that is about it.
For me, the World cup was pretty uninspiring, so I don’t even need the TV for that anymore.
I can watch the news on the web.
I decided to put my tv up for sale and graduate to be a TVless house.
I won’t need to pay for the TV licence anymore either.
We have to pay to watch TV in the UK or pay for the BBC anyway which is compulsory if you own a tv at £15pm($20pm).
This is quite a stepping stone for me after nearly 54 years of having the tv on in the background or watched most days really.
The hours whittled away watching it beggars belief.
And you know I quite hate it now anyway.
Being Gen X Tv was a staple to our lifestyles. Apparently not so much now for the younger generations.
i dont have a tv, i just watch youtube lol i dont even get why people watch tv. All thats on you can find on youtube without ads and also you dont have to wait to watch particular shows. So tv is basically like curated entertainment which i can understand why people watch it cause maybe they dont want to bother searching for shows etc. You just turn it on and kinda flip through til you find something. But idk youtube is kinda similar and has more freedom to it. You can also look up tutorials, educational videos etc… Youtube is goated lol
I usually use the TV to watch Disney+ ,to work out (I work out in the living room, there’s more space) and sometimes listen to music while doing something else
Most of the time I use my phone or computer, it’s mostly my mom that use the TV
I like watching live sports on the tv. I also watch news on the state channel which is add free. They have some entertainment that is good too. We have to pay for it over taxes even if we don’t own a tv, but then again they also have several radio stations and podcasts.
I also use the tv to watch dvd and blurays. I’ve always enjoyed movies. And also I have the tv hooked up to my a500 mini console that I use for gaming. I even have my desktop connected to the tv instead of a monitor.
I am trying to limit myself to watch/use the tv in the evening though.
Watching tv can seem to comfort one from loneliness I find by watching people on tv, but I think the price is that one gets distanced from real life events. But then again the problem is that as a medicated sz, there’s not much going on in real life, so it’s tricky to know how to handle the tv thing. I don’t think going on the web is necessarily better. A screen is a screen, and it kind of serves the same purpose, to be occupied with something.
Maybe watching too much tv is like living in a bubble, and you don’t engage in things in real life you would have otherwise. I guess it would be interesting to abstain totally for a few weeks and see what happens.
I’m in the living room most of the day my mom controls the tv. We mostly watch Dr phil or cops. I watch the local news in the morning. I watch tv typically on the weekends. It’s something that just plays in the background. I mostly talk to my mom or do housework or try to read some. I want to get back into gaming
I don’t watch much TV, mostly hubby has TV to watch two Islamic channels. The movie channel on our cheap satellite package usually plays a load of s**t. So besides religious programs and Top Gear car shows that hubby likes, and maybe a cooking show for me every now and then, we don’t watch much. I prefer reading because I can pick up book any time, unlike TV where it’s a scheduled time.
I rarely watch my TV, I keep it though. It’s free, I have Roku and get all kinds of free channels and movies. I was hooked on two TV series but I watched them just as well on my laptop. I watch it so rarely that I could easily do without it, I’m going to keep it though, it doesn’t take up much space and I grew up with watching TV so it’s kind of a habit to have one.
I did have a period of not having a tv in the past and it was quite ok to exist with computer and internet alone. Nowadays I tend to watch some programs from channels with no ads and mainly movies and documentaries. But it is old fashioned to go back to regular programming, must be age doing tricks or sumthink.
