Me and my older brother used to get along but then he got jealous as he got older and now talks about me and my sister disrespectfully in front of his kids. The only reason I know this is because his kid said sort of a white lie of me and my sister always wrecking cars and everyone found it “cute”. People in my life tend to infantilize me and my sister like today while visiting my aunt she said “ are y’all ok with cussing" not in a are you going to be offended type of way but in a “ close your ears” type of way. I had an old supervisor who used to do this too which is why me and him fell out. Anyway this is the 3rd time my nephew has said something like this. The first time he said something about my work ethic and I brushed it off. Should I A. say something about my nephew’s work ethic to teach him a lesson. Or B. Say something to my brother. C. Set a non verbal boundary with him and my parents and grey rock them and avoid family functions. I’m not sure if either of these are appropriate. It seems as people have placed an invisible image on me and my sister or taken us for granted because I have done absolutely nothing wrong to these people.

I would not advise talking to your brother about your nephew in any kind of critical manner. I think you should just try to be the bigger person and love them anyway. Sorry ur going through this.

I’ve thought about this too and thanks. I think I’m just going to love them from a distance and kind of fall back. Just gotta figure out how to not keep getting reeled back in.
