What are your alternatives to her helping you? If there are none, it’s not your fault. I mean did you mistreat the vehicle?

@FreeLunch oh no…i am a very good driver…I never punch it or accelerate very fast or anything…it’s a 2004…just an old car I guess.

yes, I told her it tears me up and I am so very sorry….she didn’t believe me at first until I said don’t fix the car but the valve job if she wanted…she’s still checking with the other mechanic.

The car is over two decades old so what was she expecting? By the time a car reaches that age you damn near have to jack up the rad cap and put a new vehicle under it. Of course it’s expensive.

I didn’t dare tell her but that’s right…it’s just an old car.

Ask her for a newer car. Tell her if she pays for it you’ll work it off somehow or do her or her friends favors or work for the friends. If she is open to that I’m sure she wouldn’t make you pay the entire purchase price, maybe just 1/3 or 1/2. I know she’s doing you a great favor by paying for repairs but explain it’s an old car and it will need more and more money for repairs and she could save money by buying you a 2018 or a 2020 car.

That $2000 you’re asking for is a lot and it is a 1/4 or a 1/3 of the cost of buying a newer car. Instead of going to Italy the money could go toward a newer car or even forget about the new guitar and the money for that could go towards a newer car too.

Yes he has an old car that will need more repairs, but at the same time you can’t just ask someone to buy you a car even if you tell them you wont ask for other things they might buy you.

It depends on how you ask it.

Sure. If he thinks he can get a newer car just by asking he should.

If I was a wealthy retiree with a disabled older child, I would buy them a new vehicle with a warranty. In the case of my daughter, she is nearly 25 and works full-time. I bought her last car while she was in uni. If she is expecting another freeb, good luck with that. Bad enough she is currently occupying my man cave (I don’t hold the housing shortage against her).

thanks everyone…the old car will just be like new after repairs I’m hoping just about everything that can go wrong, went wrong…I could never ask my mom for a new car…just can’t.

A 2004 for a car is old

My suggestion IF POSSIBLE is get a newer one

Idk and its not my business how much its worth BUT for a car that’s a good life you know what I mean

I hear A LOT of anti FORD memes and pro dodge memes

Idk my mom owns a Ford and it seems to work well other than oil changes we’ve only needed fuel to make it operate

well the total is 2,500 not 2,000…sheesh…mom is just a gem. She is mad but I hope she gets over it…we said we would pay her back if my wife gets her disability from a hearing in two weeks…she seemed comforted by that.

What does your credit look like? Maybe you can finance a newish car.

I drive cars till they’re dilapidated and explode. Drive that car untill the repairs are so much that you’re forced to buy a new car. That’s what I do. Good things

Did you come up with a backup plan that doesn’t involve your mom? You should every time you need money. Your mom won’t live forever. You’ll have to stand on your own 2 feet in the near future.

I’ve received help too. But I never ask for it and I always have a plan of what I’ll do in each situation.

she is leaving me an inheritance worth many thousands when she dies…
