drinking coffee even though I have a pretty serious gastroesophageal problem it worsens, makes my hypomanic and worsens insomnia. I often feel like I need it though kind of similar to my compulsive use of weed, but I think Ive beat the weed… for now.
Overthinking has always been a problem of mine and I daily resist the urge to write kind of philosophical musings on this site, but use other sites for that purpose. Lately, with use of coffee and insomnia I have been thinking a lot about philosophical kinds of ideas in an idle way and using AI daily. I want to do disciplined organized study daily, but can’t seem to put together a solid effort and instead just overthink in a disorganized way about kind of odd ideas.
Insomnia has been an issue lately. Been only getting a few hours here and there. Up all night, having esophageal problems and finally passing out in morning for a few hours. Coffee and overthinking during the day doesnt help nor does the breakdown if my daily routines.
My daily routines have fallen apart recently with the change of seasons it seems. In the winter i was in a very stable routine but now im kind of frenetic / hypomanic during the days even without caffiene in and out if the house on sunny days and fogetting and neglecting to eat at regular times, brush teeth and sleep etc.
Yes, caffeine is known to cause/worsen elevated states.
…But whatevs, I drink it anyways.
Coffee is my only vice at this point, and one of the few things I look forward to during my day.
Are you being reckless with money and other things, or just kind of elevated mood-wise from the caffeine?
You also mentioned having a routine during the winter but it kind of disintegrating during the warmer months— as the seasons change, moods can cycle too, so it’s good you notice the shift.
The esophageal stuff and lack of sleep isn’t great— I hope you can mitigate your caffeine usage and get some rest at some point as to not further aggravate symptoms and stuff.
Philosophical musings are okay I would think, unless you always notice an uptick in such observations when you’re symptomatic.
I think maybe a conversation with your pdoc just to touch base about your concerns/recent changes could be helpful.
…It’s tough, as the extra energy and mood benefits are great— but not when they become detrimental to the overall picture.
Are you able to try decaf coffee in the afternoons? Which, I know it’s not the same and it kinda sucks, but it might be worth trying to help alleviate your symptoms. That’s what I try to do, at least. But that full strength cup of joe is so satisfying
Im not reckless with money, but I am on Rexulti which has that effect sometimes. The hypomania is more like an energetic state kind if like ADHD. I wouldny stop coffee over that.. its kinda ok feeling. Just the esophageal problem…
I have an uocoming nurse practitioner appointment when I will bring up these issues. Just to keep them up to date… but im very adverse to new meds.
If you have a problem with the gastrointestinal tract, caffeine is just about your worst enemy, especially coffee. I too have a problem, I don’t drink coffee anymore, just soda occasionally. Quitting coffee was a absolute necessity in my case. Did too much damadge.
