Diagnosis Change

My pdoc just changed my diagnosis from schizophrenia to schizoaffective disorder this morning. I have been his patient for a year now and he has been noticing my moods and felt since I am so high functioning he felt that a schizoaffective diagnosis is a better fit for me.

He kept me on lurasidone but he added lamotrigine for me as well.

Just thought I’d share this as a health update. I feel pretty good about the diagnosis change. I think it makes sense for what has been going on for me moodwise since I was a teen.

Has anyone had a bad reaction to lamotrigine like weight gain or nausea? Just wondering.

I tried lamotrigine but came off it when the doc told me to… I did not get weight gain but I was chewing the inside of my mouth and apparently that was a side effect?

I am so sorry you had that side effect.

I hope that won’t happen to me. I start this new medication tonight.

I lost all my extra weight on generic prolixin, fluphenazine. 10 mg morning and evening at 9 30 am and pm. you might try that…I don’t even notice on on any ap.

So sorry it didn’t work for you.

My pdoc thinks it will help my overanxious moods. I hope I can get some relief from my anxiety and paranoia. It has been constant lately.

My diagnosis keeps switching between bipolar and Schizoaffective.

I’ve been on Lamatrogine for a while in the past and it saved my life.

On lower doses it acts on depression and on higher doses it stabilizes manic episodes.

It’s a really good medication and is relatively safe @Vinegar

Thanks Wave.

I have been taking a low dose of it for about 12 days now and so far I haven’t had any negative side effects. I need to check in with my pdoc in a few weeks and he will probably titrate me up to a more therapeutic dose than I am starting with.

No matter which way ppl look at their dx the truth is it’s a form of sz

Yeah, my pdoc said schizoaffective is similar to schizophrenia but the prognosis is different. I am not sure what he meant, but that’s what he said.

That’s probably why he is putting me on a mood stabilizer on top of the antipsychotic
