Eh......pee and doo doo?

It’s been awhile since I have potty trained a puppy. My memory may be off. I was thinking maybe we could have the puppy potty trained in maybe a month and a half or 2 months.

But I couldnt remember how long it took us to train Maggie.

Looking online, it said it is likely to take 4 to 6 months. Thats a long time. And a lot of pee pee and doo doo.

What are we in for?

I doubt it will take 4 to 6 months. Im no dog expert though.

It takes less time if you kennel the dog every night by the door and immediately put her outside in the morning. They rarely will poo in the kennel.

I’ve had luck with potty training where it happened easily within weeks, but that was with an older dog

Yes, we have prepared for crate training. We have Maggies crate from when she was a puppy and also bought a bigger crate when Skye is an ‘in between puppy and adult’ size. We dont have one for full grown yet.

Its difficult to have the exact right size without dividers , though. If you leave them too much room they will just go in the far corner.

But yes, we will be crating her at night.

I grew up with dogs, but I will never own one myself. I don’t want to take care of one, and I am really annoyed and agitated easily. I dont think I could have another human around let alone an animal that communicates with shrill noises. Cleaning up doggie messes would be too much for me.

Depends on the dog honestly

Take Skye out on a leash to the same spot in the backyard after her meals.

She’ll catch on soon enough

I trained my dog to go on pee pads in 2 days. I trained her to go outside in 2 weeks. I think it depends on the dog

My current dog had no issues getting potty trained.

He’s also pee pad trained.

This comes handy with a dog breed that is sensitive to extreme outdoor temperatures

One of our dogs wasn’t house trained until he was 10 months old. We’d gotten him at 10 or 11 weeks.

My dog was really solid by 4 months old but we crate trained and I never left her unsupervised. She had a handful of accidents till like 6 months but they were really rare. We moved into a new apartment when she was 6 months and she’s never had an accident here(she’s now 5 years old)

my pug was about 1 year old before fully potty trained and i had her since 8 weeks.but at the time i had no back garden to just let her out.

they are notorious for being stubborn though.

patience is key. she will get there.

The lack of yard is our issue, too, @Qwerty. I think that makes it more difficult. We crate trained and didn’t leave him unsupervised either, but it darned near took forever. Our dog is comprised of several notoriously stubborn breeds, but he’s a large dog so large accidents.
