I live in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province which is one of the most prosperous regions in China. Haircuts can be expensive in Nanjing, like 30- 50 US $. But there are also small barber shops at the corner of the streets where the barber charges you around 5-10 US $ for a haircut.
I used to get a haircut at a big saloon because I dreaded my hair looked ugly when I came out of the shop. So I chose the high priced barber to serve me during the past ten years. But around six months ago the barber I adhered to started doing a shoddy work on my hair. Usually he needs to spend 15-20 minutes making a haircut for me. Rather than that he used less than 10 minutes to finish that cut. He did this twice and I was unhappy thinking I need to look for a new barber. Then yesterday I walked into a smaller barber shop asking for a bob haircut. They said they were able to do that. And they did! The barber is a young bloke who calls me auntie. He made that haircut very carefully and skillfully. About 15 minutes later I was very satisfied with his work when I looked into the mirror. Surprisingly he only charged me 8 US $. So I found for myself a new barber !
Really crazy price! My husband prefers small barbers than big salons. He says women need to spend huge money on hairs but men only need basic cuts. He is quite thrifty in general.
