Scientists say creatine may help fight depression | ScienceDaily

Interesting article that discussed that some people improved, others didn’t which like most drugs on each individual.

Mixed results from the small study of 228 participants who were mostly women. Dosage of 5g or 10g a day. Some people with BPD became manic from it. Study was only 8 weeks long.

More reserch needed.

I think gut microbiome is also important.

E.g fermented foods can improve ‘good’ bacteria. Lead to better mood. Less anxiety. Or depression resistance.

I don’t eat anything fermented but I’ve started having chia seeds daily now for fiber.

I used to take 7g creatine daily. Will start again soon.

i cant take creatine, it gives me heart problems, likely because it causes your bodies water to go into the muscles. the heart is a muscle, so yea it messes with my heart

Ive been taking about 6g of creatine every day lately. Along with going to the gym every other day for strength training. So im hoping the creatine will help with recovery from training. And also increase muscle mass slightly from the water into muscles thing it does. One thing though is that i absolutely have to have it with food. As i have found out that if i dont have it with food then I’ll end up sharting. Which was unpleasant lol. But yeah having it with food stops that for me. Not sure if im getting any of these mental health benefits from the creatine alone, but helping me train more is definitely helping my mental health for sure. Its like my main thing in life lately. Love it.

i personally think depression is mostly about energy management. I think people who use a ton of coffee etc tend to have bipolar and such where energy fluxuates between mania and depression etc. And poor health etc can initiate depression in otherwise mentally healthy people. I think its natural that creatine helps fight depression because its a susbtance found naturally in meats which a) are highly nutritious in general and b) good for the brain. Many scientists think the reason humans have large brains is because of access to meat compared to other primates. Also meat just in general is high bioavailable because its closeness to our own bodies. I.E. the body doesnt have to do much work to convert it into other substances.

So yes it can help with general health and mental energy levels. I’ve taken it before so its no magic pill and i also think its better to get it naturally from meat.
