Thank you for sharing this @firemonkey .
I also read somewhere that a lot (over 50%) of the body’s dopamine is actually produced by the gut.
The gut also has a lot of dopamine receptors.
Finally, the vagus nerve transmits impulses and instructions from the gut to the brain in a matter of milliseconds.
There’s so much still to learn…
my theory is that, because trypophan, which is a precurser to melotonin, is produced in the gut, When there are gut problems or digestive issues, not enough tryptophan is released causing sleep problems which then impacts mental health. Im sure there are other mechanisms but i think thats a major one. I wonder what causes the gut issues in the first place though
I had appointment at Swindon’s gastroenterology dept this morning. It’s to do with Barrett’s oesophagus .It’s still ‘borderline’ re dysplasia. It’s been that way since the 1st endoscopy in March 2023. They want me to have a procedure that has to be done in Oxford. I’m autistically anxious about being in an unfamiliar place.
As has been the case since the falls it was a couple more health professionals treating me like I’m the village fool’s dumber cousin. Is it the autism? The schizophrenia? Being pushed in a wheelchair by my daughter? I’m a ‘situational’ wheelchair user . Limited mobility rather than no mobility. There is no way I can walk unaided from the parking area to the hospital’s entrance.Never mind then walking independently when I get in there.I’m not at the front of the pack when it comes to common sense, but that’s true of more than a few highly intelligent persons. The worst is when they talk to my daughter as though I’m not there.
Then there’s the autistically typical chronic bowel problems.
