The TooGoodToGo app for food

Where you can order surplus restaurant food for up to 2/3 off. They call it a surprise bag, it’s food the participating restaurant fixed that they don’t have a regular customer for so they sell it on the app and you go pick it up at a designated time. I was using it 4 or 5 times a month but I’ve cut down to twice a month.

It’s good, hot food that’s not someone’s leftovers, the restaurant fixed it and for some reason their customer didn’t want it or never showed up to get it. They call it a surprise bag because you don’t know exactly what you’re getting until you show up at the restaurant at the designated time. I’ve gotten sandwiches from a sub shop, Chinese food, Mexican food and Whole Foods sells prepared food bags.

It’s not common to get something you don’t like but it’s happened before. For example, I got a bag from Whole Foods two days ago of refrigerated goods and when I got it home I found out that it was two half gallons of iced latte and three big bottles of creamer. I had no use for the creamer but the coffee is good.

I try to only use the app every 11 days which is roughly 2-3 times per month. It’s a good deal, the Chinese food is a particularly good deal, it’s usually two entrees and rice and a side for $5.99. I especially look for the Whole Foods prepared bag foods, it can be a massive salad or salmon or potatoes or something else. The best deals can go fast so you have to check the app every day.

I’ve looked into it, but it’s an app for people of more limited means than myself so if I’m poaching the deals I am probably hurting someone who needs them more than I do. The other problem is that my diet is fairly tightly managed and the odds are I’ll get something that will make me sick as a dog if I eat it (e.g. anything deep fried now).

It’s a great idea, though.

i like the idea of it but, one thing i have noticed is their marketing is horrible lmao

the add that i constantly see literally is a piece of old pizza with a caption:

“our leftover food? Tonight’s meal!” or something quite rediculous like that lmaoo

they really need to amp up their marketing  sounds so gross
