I’m waking up coughing with congestion every few hours the last couple nights. I had this same problem a couple months ago. Getting tired of being sick. Between that and having some RL stuff I had to do today, its making it difficult to keep up with this site. Thank God the mods came online to help.
On the subject of this site……I just wanted to make it clear that we are not currently on the 500 dollar plan. The fundraising was in anticipation of probably hitting the pageview limit and possibly having to switch. I did not want to have the site go dark after the old forum goes down and did not know what the host would do when we hit that limit. We are currently on the 100 dollar a month plan with a 14 day trial period which is upgradeable at any time.
@everhopeful is looking into a very cheap option that appears to require a lot of technical knowledge to get it up and running.
If everhopefuls efforts do not pan out we have the option of either switching to another host called communiteq or something like that, which would also be around 100 dollars a month with/for the higher server stats or seeing if the current server host lets the pageviews slide by or will negotiate.
I plan on giving @everhopeful a week to see if he can get the super cheap option running before exploring the other options. No need to have 3 servers running and everyone split trying to sign up all over the place.
I apologize if I did not explore other options sufficiently. I felt anxious and rushed with such a limited time frame before the old forum closes and may have jumped the gun a bit. My technical knowledge in web hosting is also limited. I just felt like someone needed to take action because we had such a limited time frame to get a site up and migrate everyone.
Again want to thank @everhopeful for his efforts and I will make sure my stewardship of the raised funds is handled well and the money goes where it needs to be to keep us online.
Also want to thank the mods who came online to help and for changing the rest of the members trust levels.
Anyway, thats how I see our situation.
If anyone has any suggestions to help things move forward or believes I am missing something feel free to post them here.
Yes, that would be a challenge for sure. Once we got past the first month or so I planned on posting the fundraising on other sites like facebook to see if we could get outside funds.
Also, @sweetpotatopie has been looking into charitable organization funding, so there has been a lot going on in the short time since the announcement of the old forum going down.
Edit: But none of that will be needed(at least for awhile) if everhopeful succeeds or we can get by with one of the 100 dollar options.
Fully managed, (updates etc), unlimited page views per month, all for about $50/month. I say about $50 as they bill you in Euro .
When/if you’re applying for it, put something like “schizophrenia.cloud68.co” as the domain name. That way you don’t have to get into the complexity of dns etc.
Other than that , The cheapest option I found was $15 for email server, and say $10 for a good spec server. So $25/ month. That was with turbosmtp (email) and cloudclusters.io for the server.
The problem was there was no way to update the forum software version to the latest version. So security nightmare. Also it would need someone with linux knowledge to initially configure it.
Honestly, Im starting to think maybe we are better off staying here if we can function at 100 a month. its fully managed and updated and its not a technical nightmare. If we are going elsewhere we need someone with more technical skills than me to step up. Maybe we should wait and see if this level of the server will support us.
The company above offer the same service as we’re currently on (its fully managed and updated and its not a technical nightmare. ) , for half the price. A big bonus difference is there’s no page view limit.
How do you know there is pageview limit? It didnt mention that on the page where I purchased this one either. I didnt see anything about it until I opened the site and started rooting around. I may look into your site at a later date, but honestly, right now, Im getting a bit exhausted with all thats been going on.
If anyone else wants to try the new option and open a site now, I wont take offense. I just know that at right this moment, i’m not the guy. I’m happy to transfer any and all funds to someone who steps up and shut down this one if it works out better.
This is just getting to be too much of my free time.
Thanks. Thats weird. It said 50k on the page i looked at on the site. It must be wrong. 500k might be a enough, honestly.
Eitehr way, like I said. Im done for now. I have a wife who demands my attention in addition to the responsibilities for this site. If anyone wants to step up in the interim, I am not averse to it.
Everyone is already migrated here and I can maybe look into the cheaper option at a later date if no one steps up.
YEsterday we had 5.4k pageviews, so if the webpage is correct, that only amounts to about 150k a month and should be plenty. 50k is too little but 500k should be enoujgh
