Going to make a meal that i have never made tomorrow - What do you put in yours?

I’m going to make chili. I dont know why, with all the cooking I have been doing lately, I have not made it before, but this will be my first attempt.

I thought about making it tonight, but need to wait for hamburger to thaw.

My dad gave me all the basics : Many cans of chili beans, seasoning and threw us a 1.7 lbs of hamburger even, because he had leftovers from the last time he made it.

What else do you put in your chili? I was considering picking up some mushrooms…

I honestly thought you were making a joke , but I looked it up on the internet and it seems that some people do use this as a “secret ingredient”.

I’m not sure how well it would work out with me being diabetic though.

I cheat alot on my “diabetic diet” as it is. A primary meal with chocolate in it might be a bit too much for the old pancreas to handle.

I think maybe like 70% + cocoa is used. Sorry I don’t know it’s sugar content.

but I think a little goes a long way

Throw some chicken nuggets in there.

Depends on the recipe. Some recipes I’ve made call for diced tomatoes or crushed tomatoes. Some call for Worcestershire sauce. Some even say add beer or unsweetened cocoa and brown sugar. Diced onion for sure. Maybe a jalapeño. Chili powder for sure and cumin. You can go to ChatGPT for something like this and easily download a chili recipe. Or just google a chili recipe. It’s not too hard to make. You know you can defrost meat in the microwave, right? You just have to watch it carefully before the edges cook but even if they do you can still successfully make the recipe. If you defrost it in the microwave be sure to flip the meat over every few minutes until its done.

The recipes I see call for just a teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa and a teaspoon of brown sugar.

easy chili recipe

Here’s a super easy, no-fuss chili that’s great for weeknights and very forgiving :hot_pepper:

Easy Chili Recipe (about 4 servings)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained & rinsed

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained & rinsed

  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes (with juices)

  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

  • 1 packet chili seasoning or:

    • 2 tbsp chili powder

    • 1 tsp cumin

    • 1 tsp paprika

    • ½ tsp garlic powder

    • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Optional: ½ cup water or broth

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground meat over medium heat.
    Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Add the diced onion and cook 2–3 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, seasoning, and water/broth if using.

  4. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. Taste and adjust seasoning.

Optional Toppings

  • Shredded cheese

  • Sour cream or Greek yogurt

  • Chopped green onions

  • Crushed tortilla chips

  • Avocado

There’s a million different chili recipes out there. Slight exaggeration.

I don’t think you’d like mushrooms in it. I usually use a whole onion and maybe jalapenos.

You can add a few drops of ketchup to sweeten it up a little bit. And you can also add a few drops of hot sauce to give it a little kick. I like chopped onions and shredded sharp cheese on top of mine. :yum:
