I know a guy who is in his late 60s who has only listened to 1970s rock music his whole life. Nothing wrong with that, but my taste in music has changed over the years.
When I was a child I listened to the album American Pie (American Pie, Vincent), some Broadway show tunes (a straight kid listening to Broadway show tunes–I’m the unicorn), classic rock and disco.
In my 20s I listened to Elton John, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Tears for Fears, Metallica and Guns N’ Roses. As I got older I listened to Eminem, Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, kd lang, and Garth Brooks.
You get the idea. My taste in music is eclectic.
How about you? Has your taste in music changed over the years, or have you always primarily listened to only one genre of music?
When I was younger I was a lot more angry so I tended to listen to a lot of hardcore punk and hardcore bands. Stuff like Sick of it All, Blood for Blood, Terror etc.
Now as I find myself in middle age I listen to a lot more of vintage pop music, reggae, and folk music and stuff like that. More relaxing music pretty much.
I’ll always have a love for punk music though and what the scene meant to me at a young age.
Awesome man. Yeah Rollins sang for Black Flag for a pretty good stretch. He’s one of my favorite “famous” people. He’s always come across as a pretty level headed and down to earth dude.
Pretty stable taste in music really across the years. For some reason I am fond of various genres of techno music over time. But certain genres like rock I have grown a bit tired, but still listen and like the music all the same.
Yes it has changed, music is always changing, but its true that some people dont change. I’m a moderate eclectic in music but my range is not inclusive of everything.
I grew up close to Detroit so we had eminem and esham at the cd store underground. Wish I would’ve kept those CD’s. Grew up on acid rap and horrorcore like tech n9ne and brotha Lynch hung, spice 1, cbo, too short, wc, westside connection, 3x crazy, crucial conflict, and lots more. Now I listen to 90’s music and oldies, ha.
I grew up in Queens, NY in the late 1960s and the 1970s. I remember Run-DMC (from Hollis), LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane. I remember when Kane ran over a Kangol bucket hat (what J usually wore) with his Cadillac.
I started off with rock. Got into folk in early 20s. Now i like something with a good beat to workout to, jazz, metal, clasical. I’m really open minded.
Oh yeah, saw them at media play when I was younger and they were promoting the great milenko album. Got it autographed. Sold it a year later. Met them. I only like a few albums. I feel like they made some albums quick to make money.
I have always listened to a wide variety of music. But recently I’ve preferred calm music overall. I’ve been enjoying Celtic music and spa music and light classical music lately
Modern alternative rock. That means something very different today than it did in the nineties. The only artist from back then I still listen to regularly is Beck, because he is always releasing new stuff.
I very rarely listen to my old high school music like Oasis, Chili Peppers, and Green Day. I get most of my new music from Apple Music’s “new in alternative” station.
In other words I was born in 84 but my music tastes evolve over time, it’s good to know I’m not the only one! Newer bands I listen to now include Glass Animals, Tame Impala, and I Don’t Know How But They Found Me.
