I must be really dumb, i did one online before psychosis and got 84. It explains a few things actually. And i realised with schizophrenia, that i had never learnt to critically think or think things through. I fell on my head as a baby. Maybe thats why. I think i am kinda more of a critical thinker after schizophrenia, i read neuroscience now.

Yes. My score was “off the scale.” I was a child. I’m a member of Mensa. I recently took a Shipley-2, administered by a psychometrician, which measures abstract reasoning and some verbal ability, but its scale only goes to two standard deviations above the mean (130 for a standard deviation of 15 points). Consistently, I was “off the scale” on abstract reasoning on the Shipley-2, also.

In addition to IQ, science recognizes creativity and judgment as highly important cognitive abilities. IQ is very easy to estimate within a few points, but creativity and judgment can be very difficult to measure.

IQ is really one of the easiest psychological attributes to measure. The weschler scale consists of four aspects: Processing speed, working memory, abstract reasoning, and verbal reasoning. The only slightly controversial one of these four is the verbal one, because it can be affected by culture.

The history of IQ is about as long as the history of psychology as a science. That’s how easy it is to measure. Dr. Robert Plomin has called it the most powerful tool psychologists have.

However, the history of three of those four aspects goes back over 1000 years in western culture. All 3 of those 4 aspects of IQ except verbal reasoning are heavily used in chess, which has been highly important in western society for at least 900 years.

So, it could be reasonable to have the notion that western society has thrived on 3 aspects of IQ for about 1000 years. Arguing about the value of IQ is to argue with basic science and basic history. It makes low IQ people feel better, though.

I’ve gone in another direction. Boygenius is about all I can think of. Not spending much time listening to tunes anymore.
I spend almost all of my time with my GF of 24 years. She is 87 now, 88 on Nov 4th. I am 56.

She pretty much controls the tv, tunes and all that.

The only scientifically and historically accurate thing to say. I can’t help it if simple and indisputable realities hurt people’s little feelings.

I think it was 129 in high school, then I did another 13 years later post psychosis and got 111. I feel better mentally now than I did back when I took the last test, but I’m not going to take another. I don’t really care what the score is. Not something to take too serious anyway.

High IQ does strongly correlate with academic achievement, job performance, complex training, and annual income (but not net worth), but high IQ does not strongly correlate with global and social peace, empathy and social skills, which are critical to the very existence of Western society.

IQ scores do have their place and value, but so does skills such as resilience and conscientiousness.

An intelligent person knows that a tomato is a fruit.
A wise person knows to never put a tomato in a fruit salad.
