I am leaving the forum

I am leaving the forum. I believe Sunday would make two weeks since I decided to leave.

You can always come back. If you decide not to, it’s always sad never to see someone again even in the image and text based way of a forum.

I’m sorry to see you go @anon36616321

Thank you! It’s not just the forum I’m trying to leave. The internet triggers something in me. I think it’s a stress of some kind. I either have a social media addiction or an internet addiction.

Why don’t you take a break?

I have issues with feelings of dependency and I guess addiction and loss of self control in using internet and devices… but I kind of ignore those feelings because they really do help me pass the time which otherwise would often be quite difficult.

idk I’m kind of a black and white thinker. I have a hard time seeing the grey areas sometimes and when I don’t do thing “perfectly” ( i.e purging) it causes distress

I see where your coming from. Today I was talking to my brother about leaving the internet and he said why not just look at it. I’ve tried for a long time to do that.

Looking at it only is a good possible solution. Interaction with it comes with a lot of angsts and stuff. I find the very reduced social contact of the forum and other sites better than IRL socializing and it can be rewarding, but it does come with the same kinds of feelings that regular socializing gives like dissatisfaction or feeling ignored or whatever… many different things

I think that’s it too. Most of the time I don’t feel heard in real life. I think places like social media and the internet are echo chambers for it because you just post into the abyss.

Were all friends here and are familiar. I hope you stay. I dont know you seemed to have doubts about your diagnosis? Are you still having them?

Sometimes. Like right now I just am having insomnia from being off of my antipsychotics. Been reading a book on positive self talk and I feel like I fail when the day is not perfect. It’s been worse because I’ve only gotten a few hours of sleep today. Been trying to get rid of everything. Starting a new job after quitting a week ago. I know I don’t do well with change, just don’t know how to handle it quite yet.

Why are you off the antipsychotic? Have you spoke to your doctor about it?

I hope you get some sleep. It is stressful being unable to keep a job and going from one to another, i know and understand ive been there myself

I’m not trying to pry but why are you not on an antipsychotic?

Does your doctor know?

Were you diagnosed with schizophrenia or another psychotic disorder?

@Wave @Ducky I am on my antipsychotic just ran out of it before the holiday and the pharmacy closed. When I miss a day I don’t get any sleep and even when I start again it takes my body/brain time to adjust.

Sorry to see you go @anon36616321

But I understand, internet addiction is real and if you need to just completely unplug, that’s respectable. You’re always welcome back, if you ever decide to. Good luck!

I think many people struggle with limiting online time, and using the internet with purpose only, but I’d say learning to master it is the solution. Limiting time spent on it, and be particular about what you use it for.

I find placing the phone out of arms reach often helps me to use it less. Sometimes I place it in the next room. If I have to use it for something, I will put it back out of arms reach when I finish, or want a break.
