What would you do if someone put 1 million in your bank by mistake?
Would be tricky to withdraw. Anti-money laundering laws in the UK would ask what you need it for and how you initially got it - then a few days wait to make sure it does not bounce in error. Providing I could meet this conditions? Id then withdraw it, and start house-hunting.

Let it sit there for a while so as to not raise suspicions.

I would most likely invest it in some low effort and low risk way. I doubt I would just consume it or squander it, but difficult to tell, truth to be told.

I would ask them why they sent it to me, and return it. Because I would inevitably have to return it so why torture myself by keeping it.

I think in this day and age of anti money laundering a transaction of that size would be flagged. I would phone the bank in case they thought I was party to something dodgy

Honestly, I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole. I’d call the bank and let them know of their error. I once sold my house and had about $100k in profit in the bank. The bank doubled the amount. I left the money alone, let them know, and they brought it back to the correct number. I can say it was cool to see such a high number in my account, though.

If I somehow got to keep it, I’d buy land and start a small community farm.
