As much as I’d love to make money for doing the admin, patreon updates and website, I volunteered to do this free. So I worry a bit that we might get too much money and I don’t know what to do with it.
RIght now we had one user quit patreon and one join so we should be around 50 dollars in subscriptions and 900 dollars left from the gofundme right now.
As much as I would love to bank money for the future, it makes me a little nervous to be collecting so far into the horizon.
So, you know, we are in pretty good shape right now. Unless you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, it is not required of you.
The only thing I can think of to use any excess for is maybe to help me pay for the website domain and other costs and that isnt due until next year.
I’m not sure if I should unpin the patreon link or just allow it to continue to build up.
Opinions?
Should we bank it? Help pay for website? Or put a halt to it all? Is there something else you think we should use the money on?
We are set for another 10 months or so on hosting fees as it stands.
Is it possible to pay the hosting fees etc in advance? If so i think that’d be a great use of the donations, because imo longevity should be the number 1 priority. The GoFundMe was an amazing thing and really saved the site i think, but it may only be a one time thing. IDK you know better than i do, but that’s my opinion. IDK if its possible to call them and say hey I want to pay a year or 6 months or whatever in advance but yea i think its not a bad idea. Again just my opinion because im not sure how all this works or what it costs.
Thanks for you opinions @POET . I am happy to share the details with you. Our current level of hosting costs 100 dollars a month. The website , domain and site building tool and the various trimmings, cost me a couple hundred. It was all discounted and will go up next year, but I can cancel some of the tools so that it doesnt since the site is pretty much set up. I said I would pay for website on my own.
There are more hosting options for more storage space, emails per month, pageviews, etc, but I dont think we really need them because im clearing out used storage space as we go. My maintenance should save us a lot of money on that.
As for paying ahead of time, this is probably something I would have to call about to see what options are available.
