I might as well fess up since we are talking about it. I have talked to the old mods on the old site about 2 weeks ago and we are going to recommend to szadmin that he archive the old forum and link here for new posts.
I was semi keeping it a secret until szadmin logged in to give his input , but its been 2 weeks with no word from him.
More than five minutes twice a year. I’m really not kidding about this. Only responded when we texted many times to say EMERGENCY.

We dont currently have the storage space to absorb the entire old forums posts(Primarily all the old un(perm)deleted uploads). What it would likely be is that you could search the old forum for old posts and put new posts here.’
At least until discourse’s good will runs out and the old forum goes down. I dont think szadmin is interested in paying anymore.
We considered lots of options. Even asking szadmin if he would make me an admin of the old site, but there were various reasons why the other options wouldnt work. (costs in this case primarily).
This was what we came up with as the solution that made the most sense.

I apologize to all. I thought of doing it, but I just couldn’t. The last year burned me out badly. Many nights up late swatting The Troll at 3am because there were no mods on that side of the world to deal with that user.
For me it’s about likely longevity, as much as it’s about personal preference. The response to the old forum’s ‘stay of execution’ has been disappointingly lukewarm,at very best. How many were there due to a lack of a good alternative? I’d say way more than a few.
The grounds for keeping the old forum going, it saddens me to say this, are between slim and non existent.
Well, until if and when the old forum goes down, if szadmin agrees to it, we can kind of have the best of both worlds. Access to the old posts on the old forum and a new forum to make new ones.
This solution is really win/win. If the old forum goes down if we all stay here, we will only lose the old posts, not a place to be.
Having a good idea of how much of it is worthless troll content going back almost a decade, I’m rooting for it to go offline. That body of work going missing will be a tremendous ego smash. I like it.
Edit: I should add before I left I was arguing in favour of deleting the old database and forcing new signups, so I got what I wanted. Sort of.
It’s a nostalgia thing on my part. The heart and the head at odds with each other.
I have very little nostalgia outside of my marriage, daughter, cats, and cameras. If it’s useless it’s disposable (how I view my wife’s cousins).
I understand. This site , IMO, is mostly a mirror of the layout of the old site, with a few improvements. The biggest aesthetic thing thats changed is the url.
If you ignore the url you might think you were at the old sz forum.
But I understand the nostalgia. I dont like the thought of losing alll my old posts there.
I like that the old forum had more Maggie.
