play fifteen mins. a day to build up callouses on your left hand…I would learn to read tablature because there are many tablature sites online to choose from.
Buy a nylon string guitar as the pain in the fingers is much, much less, so you can play more and when you take a break it still doesnt hurt the fingers as much when you pick it back up.
The pain in the fingers really does stop people playing. A nylon stringed guitar is so much easier!
I got a great tip for you, other than getting a nylon stringed guitar.
If you are right handed playing on a right handed guitar, then the right hand is the engine and the left hand is the steering wheel.
Like the original karate kid you need to wax on, wax off. And that rmeans learn 2 chords (G major and C major) then practice the finger picking hand using the thumb and the fingers to individually rev the engine.
Slow it down and speed it up, learn variations with the right hand and just switch betwen the two chord. Use the thumb"!
No one told me to do this, but i wish they had. You could know 40 chords and still sound awful, beleive me I tried. Just tune the engine.
Steer just left and right ( the two chords) only and master that right hand. Wax on and wax off!
When the engine is clean and revved perfectly then move onto all the chords.
This will give you a great advantage that no traditional teacher ever told me online anyway.
It will save you a lot of time and have you sounding great in a few months.
@POET If neighbors are a problem, you can get an electric and attach it to a Fender Mustang Micro and some headphones for a more private, neighbor-friendly experience.
put up with fifteen mins. a day playing a steel string and build callouses I say is better…callouses start in about three days…then you eventually can’t feel anymore on your string left hand fingers…I show people my callouses by pressing straight down on a table for about five seconds and when I pull my hand away my fingers look flat across the edge…ha
Do you have an acoustic, electric, or acoustic/electric? Just curious because my acoustic is reasonably loud, my electric is virtually silent without an amp, and my acoustic/electric is loud af with the amp. When I had a piano, I had it put in a center area of the house because I didn’t want the neighbors to complain lol. With the guitars, I just make a point to play during the day while they are at work or use the electric and headphones if I want to play at other times.
Speaking of, I got a wicked amp that records; I went from an Orange to a Fender. I’m pretty happy with it.
