Any ideas for learning how to increase speed with the picking hand and playing accurate and fast consistently? I have practiced speed a bit by starting slow and accurate and building up, and sometimes it seems to work. I’m shredding away, not insane speed or anything but pretty fast. But then at another moment I’m picking up the guitar and try the same speed and I can’t do it. I wonder why I can’t do it consistently. Maybe it’s because I’ve played for almost 20 years at a slower speed and it takes time to get used to it?
there is bound to be a youtube video on it somewhere…
I would think a thinner pick would allow you to increase speed on picking…practice tablature scales for lead guitar.
Thanks I’m checking out the first video now! Looks promising.
Btw that’s some nice soloing over sweet child o’ mine. I use that backing track a lot and try to play the solo. I can’t do the fast part so I improvise there.
The original sweet child o’ mine solo is one of my favorite solos.
i asked a friend who played guitar once what the secret was to learning fast and he said learning tabs. obvious i know but you can learn songs quickly by searching up their tab notation on youtube and such.
edit: oh i see youve been playing for 20 years nvm lol i thought you were just starting out or something
Play riffs slowly, then add speed as you go. This is a matter of muscle memory, no different from when you learned your first barre chords. Persistence and patience.
