You are without a doubt one of the coolest people I know (at least as far as forum posts go) of on the forum. You are always supportive of people, but even more so, you are pragmatic and real about life’s ups and downs.
It’s obvious you’ve got keen senses and don’t get carried away. Honestly, I think you are awesome, and your mother is wrong to not give you credit for your development and sacrifice as a result of the illness. But I do want to say, you give to this community something invaluable and that’s heartfelt, wholesome and will bring you vast fortune in luck I hope!!!

Thanks so much @Mr.Apple ! I’m think @sweetpotatopie may be onto something: my mom may not question my skills but rather my lack of thick skin. It puts things in a different perspective, you know?

Having dreams and personal passions are great even if we can’t ever really gain public admiration for our certain skills. You know you have talent and that’s what really matters. It’s okay to have passions and skills but you also have to know your limitations. There are plenty of reclusive musicians who can share their talent despite life’s challenges. You just need to find away to do that on your own.

Thanks @tarnishedLotus . I just started playing again. I’m working on easy classical pieces. I’m going to start doing exercises too. It’ll be a long road ahead, but I’m hoping to get to play again like I used to.

@Lilyofthevalley I did pursue art again later in life (I also did it very well as a kid, but got burnt out and ended up hating my instrument in my late teens).
It’s a tough life. And a beautiful hobby.
I have a couple high level competition winner friends struggling to get private students to pay the rent. Most of them are also waiters, and music is a side job.
I’m not trying to antagonize your feelings. Just saying that the process of learning and doing art should be, imo, the goal by itself.
Please, don’t lose hope thinking too much about the past!
