I like that category but haven’t posted in it. I try to keep up with current events IRL but I’m probably minimally informed on most subjects because there is just too much going on in the world and the sheer volume of media about every little detail, for instance, every Trump misstep or misspeak is reported on endlessly and hard to digest all of it. I just used to post news stories of big, impactful world events because I assumed everybody would want to know and have something to say about it. it’s a shame that this close of a vote seems to be going towards getting rid of the news category. On such a big issue it would seem it would take a 2/3 majority to get rid of it. I have no rational reason for calling for a 2/3 majority except it seems right.

every time I posted a current event, even if it wasn’t political it would be locked or removed and I think I have been suspended for trying to defend myself about it in the past. you may as well say don’t talk about anything that’s on the news.
From what i can see, you have never posted in Current affairs here, nor have you ever been suspended.
I assume you are talking about the old forum?

Yes, I did have a post locked and removed on this forum as well but mostly on the older one,
I also want to state that sometimes you can’t get away from the news and current affairs and it does upset people and for that reason alone we should be able to talk about the things that upset us,
This support forum is for people with serious mental illnesses and it can be a good outlet talking and discussing news items in a positive productive way.
I would recommend you vote if you want news to remain then. Because we need to have a separate category so it can be muted. The news upsets some people. If you want current affairs news here, the category cant fall. I will go by the results of this poll.
the news does upset some people and it can lead to symptoms returning, if I get symptoms from a particularly bad piece of news, I would like to be able to talk about it with everyone and not be hidden away somewhere out of site
I’m happy with where the Pole is at. It seems fitting. We need to have some access to current events if things turn awry.
I don’t think there will be any safe space to talk about the news on this site, mods will intervene as usual, its when normal news is deemed political when its not, that I hate, you can’t just term all news political, that seemed to be the case a lot of the time I think.
I can see how people might get upset about some really upsetting things and how that can bleed onto other people, I totally get that but I think you need to look at the title and usually it is a big tell, if you think a post sounds upsetting then don’t open it.
if you stick by the rules regarding news, you should be fine. Read the rules regarding that category. That’s what the moderators should be following. You are kind of complaining about things that havent happened yet here.
If you post factual news stories that are not opinion pieces, you should be fine.
It is a bit hard sometimes for us mods to get out of the “old forum” mindset because a couple of us spent years there following the example of how the old rules were followed there. Its hard to break habit. But I am going to try hard to allow factual news stories to stand if the category survives the vote.

The one I posted here which wasn’t allowed and was locked/hidden was factual about conscription in my country. I was upset about it & people were engaging with the post peacefully as far as I could see.

I’ll take a look at your history.
I see the deleted post. It was in the lounge and it wasn’t a news story. We made this category specifically for factual news stories and that any comments should remain factual and not political opinions.

I voted for it to stay.. there are events that got to be talked about when they happen. Also i think people / celebrities passing should be there too.

I have no problem with celebrities passing being there too. Sometimes some things may fit in more than one category. I dont think its necessarily a requirement to post them there. I dont think it does any harm in the lounge. Celebrity news stories arent likely to upset certain members like some news might. Like potential war and stuff like that.
