Seems to be a bit of confusion on the intent of the current affairs category

The intent of the current affairs category is listed in the rules and the description of the category.

It is intended to keep current affairs news off the main forum when major events are happening and people are tempted to post about them.

It is kept separate with the goal being that those that do not wish to be informed about things like this can mute that category.

It is intended for, as stated in the rules and the description of the category, for factual news stories. Not opinion pieces or political opinions.

Comments on the stories should be limited to factual events and not political views to keep politics out of it.

For example : If there was a story on september 11th 2001 , an appropriate comment might be “I heard there were 3000 people killed during the attack”. An violation of the politics rule might be “It’s the Republicans fault for their middle east policy” etc etc.

I know how hard it is to keep this fine line maintained and if the category doesnt work out we can always have it removed.

But I think this post should make the intent clear.

You actually expected people to read those?

minor events are fine to post about too, but the intent was have a place when people are tempted to post about such they have an outlet to inform people that wish to see it.

Not necessarily. That’s why I do a lot of clarifying.

I’m sorry I’m not going to deal with current events as a topic anymore. I can’t handle the temptation to slide into politics. It gets me viscerally
