Social ethics question: poll

Ok so I had a drivers license from 2010 to 2015. It expired.

Now I have a learners permit. However, there’s nobody I know with a license who can ride shotgun to let me practice for the road test.

So here is the ethics question:

Should I answer a lot of car sales ads just to practice during test drives?
  • Yes, theres no problem
  • No, it’s unethical

I can’t say for sure. Is it even legal for a person with a learners permit to drive cars for sale? They know you can’t drive a car off the lot legally on your own. And you have to show your drivers license in order to test drive a car. Otherwise it’s an interesting plan. Can you call places that do driver training and ask them what you should do? I mean they should know.

They won’t let you drive the car without a license, sorry.

it would probably be more productive to just hire someone online in the classifieds who can ride shotgun with you. If you test ride peoples cars, how long of a test would it be? 5 minutes? you could put out an ad saying youll pay 20-30 bucks and hour for someone to drive shotgun with you. Im sure someone who needs the money would be happy to get paid that much to just sit around

also if you need a car to test ride with maybe you can pay for said person to rent a uhaul van or something too.

i see hmm, i dont think it would be really worth it personally. And 30 minutes seems like a long test ride but again idk anything about this topic so. Could just pay someone like 100 bucks to ride ride around with you for a few hours. Perhaps you can even ask someone on uber or something like that… im sure a lot of people are looking for ways to make money and it would be a great way to do that. hope you find a good way man!

Your plan might fall under “chaotic good”:

Its difficult to classify… i cant decide between lawful neutral, chaotic good or chaotic neutral

IDK, isn’t the person who voluntarily gets in a car with you so you can drive giving consent to kind of taking responsibility for your driving and your safety by using their car? IDK if random people who are selling cars would want to take that much responsibility and risk.

There may be caveats in the cars insurance which may forbid this

It’s probably not legal, at least not without you telling the guys that do the test drive you don’t have a license. If there actually were a accident while you’re driving and you didn’t tell them it will probably fall on you.

All I can say to these objections is I’m in Newfoundland.

ok… edit… as far as I know it’s legal. The law says I can drive a car with a licensed driver.

I’m test driving a 2012 standard transmission Honda Civic
