Today I went over to my brother-in-laws mother’s house to check out a mattress. His mom is 96 and just moved out of her house into an assisted living complex and he’s getting her house cleaned out and repaired so he can rent it out, then sell it. It’s a 3 million dollar, four bedroom, two bath house and it was filled with 60 years of his moms possessions so he is down from Oregon to sell her furniture and box up the rest of her stuff and give it to Goodwill.
I am shopping for a new mattress and his mom has a like-new twin mattress that my brother-in-law is going to give me the 23rd. I went over today to try out the mattress and see if I want it. He asked me if I wanted to hang out for a couple of hours and I said sure and then he asked if I had eaten lunch. I said no so we went out to lunch. We were walking in the restaurant and he started looking like something was wrong and he was panicking and he said, “Oh, I forgot my wallet”. I said “No problem, I got cash and I’ll treat you.” I figured it was the least I could do, him and my sister are always treating me to meals at restaurants.
It was a nice restaurant but it was actually relatively inexpensive, one meal cost $35 for both of us. That’s cheap for Silicon Valley, at most restaurants it would have been $45 or $50. So I payed and it felt good to do something for someone else.
