About IP's, vpns , etc - to those of you trying to get into the site

I almost want to pin this topic but we have too many pinned already and I dont want to make the site burdensome to new members.

The more detrimental factors you have associated with your IP the more likely one of our staff will reject and possibly even block your IP.

If you come in with a clean IP you are much more likely to be allowed in by staff.

All the negative factors add up and make staff much more likely to reject unknown users. Vpn,proxy, high fraud score, bot activity, abuse, and more all add up to more likely to be rejected and possibly banned IP’S.

So if you want to make sure youre accepted, try to come in with your real IP with no risk scores.

@poet in particular is very good at researching where members are coming from…other stuff on the internet and such, so these are not the only factors in approve/deny, but they are a big part of it.

I am aware that just because you are using an vpn with high scores in certain areas doesnt automatically make you a high risk person. Others may be abusing it. But we only have so many tools to measure your risk by. A clean, real IP is the best ticket for success.

The only problem I have noticed is that I am just a basic user even with good behavior. This is probably caused by using a vpn I guess. These days I just do not want to use the internet with a real ip address. But I think I understand the reasoning nonetheless, so no worries. :globe_with_meridians: :+1:

Are you from the old site or a new user. The more you interact and post the faster you will achieve members status.

I am a newish user all right, used to lurk the old forum when it was still functional. Must be the vpn stuff doing it’s thing. But guess it is wise policy to filter ip’s and all that. I assume that behind the scenes it is difficult to keep things in order and good effort is being made. Maybe it is somehow automated how the user status changes over time. But no worries, it is what it is.
