Happier by Tal Ben-Shahar (book)
Struggle a lot in life in all things, push yourself to the point that everything feels meaningless, then find pleasure in the small things. Live your life like an experiment. Can’t find nothing on tv, shut it off for a month. Then return to it see how you feel. I’m personally against asceticism. Denying yourself too much you’ll eventually deny yourself everything that makes you human. But some people need to live life as an experiment to appreciate simplicity. Good things.
Loneliness is painful, but did you know our negative thoughts can amplify that pain? A practice that helped me is to stay grounded in the present. I tend not to dwell too much on the past or future, unless it is useful to do so. If you’re having thoughts like “zomg I’m gonna be alone forever and it’s unbearable.” Then this practice could help you. There is a book about this called “The Power of Now”. Therapies such as CBT/DBT also advocate for something like this as a mindfulness practice.
I’m still lonely, but it doesn’t stop me from also being happy.
Spending time with animals can also help; petting a cat or feeding the ducks.
