Bought Surviving Schizophrenia

Last night I ordered a book online, one of the most well known books on sz. I first looked to see if there was any books on sza but there isn’t many, so a lot of sza’s read books on sz and bipolar/depression to get the full picture. So I’m doing that too.

Looking forward to getting it delivered to me!

A few years ago I went through a long wellness phase (8 months) and donated all my sz books and got rid of my sz/sza notes collection in a file. Because I thought I’d never get ill again. Bad mistake!! I did and I still regret it to this day that I threw them out. Stupid thing to do!

Now I’m trying to build up my collection again. This book I’m ordering sounds good, I’ve heard a lot of good said about it.

I own that book. I remember some of the descriptions of people with schizophrenia being a bit bleak.

I personally think it appeared a bit dated and not very uplifting. And least from what I can remember.

Not to say there isnt some legit info in there.

I did not read the whole thing cover to cover either though.

I read it and found it too extreme as far as how bad it is. I mean, it is that bad for some but not all. Life can go on and be meaningful after onset.

I have that book, it’s pretty good. It’s even got a section where the author lists a bunch of popular movies/books featuring schizophrenic characters or stories.

It’s like a good introduction but you’ve got to realise I was diagnosed and thought I had multiple personality disorder. It just is what it is and served a purpose so I think we all should read it but it’s written from a provider of mental health and not a sufferers perspective.

You’ve got to realise there wasn’t many critical works about mental illness for its time so it’s a worthwhle work but I’m not sure whether it’s changed since then but maybe it has.

I’ve read it and have a copy. The coolest part about the book imo is the first 60 pages where he talks about first hand experiences.
