the study done on healthy people not schizophrenic.so if working memory is impaired its due to they are healthy people not mentally ill.other study say certain antipsychotic improve cognition including working memory in mentally ill population.
IMO it’s dosage dependent.Too little symptoms aren’t helped. Too much and cognition takes a hit. Unfortunately for some the dosage required to effectively improve symptoms may be at a level whereby cognition is adversely effected. I’d say it’s less of a problem than it used to be. We are no longer in the era of the ‘chemical cosh’. An era when even comparatively mild symptoms were treated with large doses.
We are certainly seeing more people with SMI getting college/university degrees, than when I was that age. A result of improved treatment or a result of going to college/university requiring a significantly lower IQ than was the case for my generation?
