Do y’all remember exchanging Valentine’s Day cards in elementary school?

I remember it. And you had to give one to every person in class so no one got left out. Some had candy suckers attached to them. Some people gave out sweetheart candies.

Yes, I remember.

We’d make our own Valentine’s mailbox type things too.

We didn’t have that. I dreaded Valentines Day, I was often left out.

I understand that I’m sorry you feel that way I would’ve given you a valentine card. My sister was the pretty sister. She was the popular one. Everybody wanted her and no one wanted me so I understand where you’re coming from. I think an elementary school they should make the kids give out valentine cards to every kid.

There was a girl in my class who was I guess you would call her mentally ill? She was say she was 12 but she acted like her. Her age. Mental age was eight in example. Well, we had to do a project and we had to pick partners and no one wanted to pick her as a partner. And she sadly said “does no one want to pick me?” I said “I’ll be your partner Stacy.” When I was a kid I was compassionate like that. I cared so much about people. now I’m just trying to survive that’s a different story altogether.

That’s so funny you started this thread. My daughter is currently writing the names of all the students in her class on the backs of little Minecraft sticker valentines to pass out tomorrow. :heart_with_ribbon:

It was devastating when you got left out, usually by accident. There was no malice, just a small kid thing.

oh yes !! it was a special time…

In my school we had to give Valentine’s Day cards to everyone in our class, so no one would be left out. I remember one year, I think it was 1st grade, I couldn’t get Valentines day cards to handout to my classmates, so the teacher told every one of my classmates to not give theirs to me.

I guess it’s fair? I don’t know. It sucked then and was embarrassing.

That’s just wrong.

That was grade four. I remember that. Mom didn’t have enough for food and she was so skinny because she made sure I ate when she didn’t. Nothing left for buying even cheap Valentine’s cards.

Yes, and in high school a sender’s friends would deliver a card to the receiver’s class. I never got one.
