Only happened to me once. However I hate the psych ward and didnât go voluntarily as often as I should have. Itâs less of a problem in Alberta as we do our best not to have any health care services here for the mentally ill or any other kind of ill (except rich people).
Its true I was psychotic in Calgary back in â04 probably and I was released from hospital same night psychotic. Only time its ever happened to me in Canada. It might have happened twice in Calgary canât remember.
I had a brief stay in a psych ward in Edmonton that same year. They had to move me off Zyprexa and I got put in to be safe while they shuffled my meds. It sucked.
probably cause healthcare is free so people including healthcare workers will use it without thinking about the finances of a person. If they had to pay for it like in other countries they might say âwell you know we dont want to put this guy in debt when hes doing relatively ok he doesnt need to go neccisarilyâ.
here it seems like they just willy nilly send you âjust to be safeâ.
im pretty sure they do yes, although i think there is like medicare and stuff like that if your income is low which i imagine helps⌠i think most poeple have some kind of insurance there tho
Meanwhile in the UK, you could be in a horrendous state, and theyâll oo and arr over helping you. âDONT JUMP! THE CRISIS TEAM WILL SEE YOU IN 14 DAYS!â that sort of thing. If Canada is taking affirmative steps and actions, I take my hat off to them. The wimpy tarty âoooo I dont knowâ stance over here is what almost lead to me unliving someone when I should of been in hospital being forcefully medicated back to sense.
Not really, no. There are no beds avaialble to admit people from the ER unless they toss someone else who is too sick to go home but they are booted anyhow and put on âcommunity supportsâ that mostly donât show up to help the person at home. In the case of an MI person they are likely still in crisis or, if lucky, just not functional.
This backs up the ERs so people arenât seen in a timely manner and leave. Some die in the waiting room .
Oh, also, if you call for an ambulance it may not show up the same day sometimes.
