You might have to share a room which isn’t necessarily bad, I had a couple of good roommates. Do you already know the group home you’re going into? There’s usually a curfew of around 9:00 or 10:00 at night and a bedtime of 10:00 or 11:00. The people who run it usually do the grocery shopping and cooking though I’ve been in one where we had to take turns cooking. There’s usually not a lot of room for personal items in your bedroom. if you are looking around for the right group home to go into pick one that has a washer and dryer on the premises.
Also, you want a house that’s near stuff in the neighborhood like bus lines, stores, hopefully near a hospital or clinic or pharmacy where you can get your meds dispensed. And near a bank would be helpful or near a post office.
Group homes can get kind of boring, there will probably be a TV, if you’re lucky a ping pong table. There might be between 10-30 other clients, I was in one that had 8 other clients and I was in a large one that had about 30 people. They’re good places to make friends, you’re all in the same boat and having a mental illness in common so you might find a few people to hang out with and kill time. You’ll probably all eat together in a dining room, I’ve been in 5 different ones and i find they usually had good food. Unfortunately, you might get in a house where people are doing drugs and drinking and that could tempt you to join in if you’re not careful. I could think of some more details if you’re really interested.

Well, then you’ll find out what it’s like. But I gave you an idea what to expect. A couple of things though, one guy brought his TV and VCR into his room. Another guy who was a friend of mine had at least a 200 CD collection. You might have to worry about people stealing stuff though. The rooms where everybody slept was in a two story house and people were stealing downstairs but on the second floor where my room was there was no stealing.
Hopefully everybody will be cool at your house and not cause trouble. I felt safe in most of the homes though in the last one I was in the first week I was there this guy was yelling and threatening me so I left and spent the night at my sisters until he cooled off and a couple of months later the same guy wanted to be my roommate, I guess he had forgotten all about the yelling. To tell the truth I had forgotten about it too.

I lived in group home over 20 years ago in my early 20s. Yours seems different based on getting smoke break every two hours. Seems a little restrictive and controlling. Although that might be one of few restrictions, idk.
