For a long long time then tapered off?
Yes, its not an experience i care to repeat. I had a break.
it took awhile but I slowly became psychotic again.
I went off both my anti-psychotic and anti-depressant summer of 2024. At first I was okay, my libido went through the roof, I was losing weight fast. Then it really started to go downhill. It felt like my fight or flight was activated every second I was awake. My paranoia and delusions got worse. I wasnt sleeping much. I ended up going to the ER.
I do think these meds help us more than they hurt us.. but sometimes I wish I could stop my AP and watch the weight fly off, but I will probably be on meds my whole life. I am overall pro-med. Just hate the side effects.
ive stopped cold turkey a few times, would not recommend. especially the times i threw out my meds so i wouldnt change my mind convincing myself once i got through the short term suffering id be fine long term
I’ve been off many times. Relapse cos of stress not non medication compliance.
APs only dampen some peoples delusions or voices.
They are not a cure.
Do absolutely nothing for me except cause sexual dysfunction.
I got tapered off Risperidone and Olazapine which didn’t really work. Took a good few years with both too to find the right medicine combination.
Yes I was on mine for 10 years before the docs decided to taper me off….
I tapered off Abilify and ended up psychotic in hospital 2 years later.
I’ve been on Abilify and out of hospital for about 11 years now.
Nope but one day I’m like to find out! I must say, all these prior responses aren’t filling me with confidence lol
My previous doctor tapered me off of Risperdal rapidly and I quickly switched over to Vraylar and became fully psychotic within 3 weeks.
I was Manic as hell
Got involuntarily committed twice at a max security ■■■■ hole of a psych hospital for a 5 week stay in 2016
I was on seroquel for 12 years and they took me off it in the psych ward overnight. Worse three days of my life before they started the new med. I ended up in the isolation unit those 3 days. Ugh.
I was on Loxapine and Geodon as a mix for 5 years. Loxapine caused really bad TD and Dystonia in my left hand. I successfully tapered off the Loxapine over a course of 4-5 months. Finally off them for good April of last year. I’m on a higher dose of Geodon now but I’m not even maxed out on that dose. That being said yes, it is possible to taper off of antipsychotics that you have been on for a long time. However, I do highly recommend doing this under your doctors care and with their permission trying to taper off of long-term antipsychotics can be dangerous when done in properly.
I think my issue with coming off anti-psychotics is that every time i’ve done it, i’ve done too big of jumps. I’d go from 10 mg to 5 mg to 2.5 mg. If I ever try again in the future (un-likely, but you never know) I might ask the pharmacy to cut them in 4.5 mg pieces. Stay there for 3 or 4 weeks, then go down to 4 mg, ect…. small jumps.
I’m not trying to get off all antipsychotics but I will be switching from invega to only on cobenfy. Right now I’m on both and I’ve been on invega 7 years or so
