What’s your opinion on a schizophrenia patient being a teacher?
I think its a great idea. But for the person with an illness it’s important for them to not think of themselves as a patient but rather a person most of all.
I dont see why not as long as they do not have a dangerous nature, because that could end roughly, if the medication poops out.
I think you would b a great teacher.
And agreed, you are a person, not a patient ![]()
I think if you’re devoted to receiving treatment and taking your meds and staying stable, it’s a great idea. It’s always good to follow your passions. But you need to remain treated in order to not affect your students. It’s for their sakes. if you get treated and it still happens well at least you tried your best, but if it happens because you didn’t accet treatment of your own free will well that might be a problem in my opinion
Yeah, I get Lilly. It’s kinda irresponsible to not adhere to meds and want others to accommodate to health failures , regardless of it being nobody’s fault or not - the reaction and the use of meds is at least in your control unlike the illness fault itself
Would you be open about your illness? Can you stand up in front of 25 students who know you have schizophrenia?
Or conversely, if you hid it, can you stand up in front of 25 students and hide your illness?
That’s a good point. I will hide the illness from students, but they’ll know about it becuase rumours spread. The school will have to always know though. If i’m off the rails, who knows who to contact if I don’t tell them kinda thing
who knows if i could even handle the pressure though
What’s important is that having schizophrenia does not automatically disqualify you from being a teacher. What’s important is how well you function and handle stress.
If I didn’t have to learn to drive. If I could access MH specific services for teachers. If I was employed independently rather than in the public sector. These are all pro’s for a safe working conditions, but reality is different to what is promised
@77nick77 If I said, stress management is like a muscle, what would you think? Am i wrong or am i being delusional and inconsiderate of the illness in your opinion
You mean if you practice and exercise it, it becomes stronger? Idk, I guess you can learn to manage stress better. I guess you could learn how to handle different stressful situations and problems and become better at it. I guess you can learn how to handle specific stressful situations better.
Yes it’s possible
I was a substitute teacher on an elementary level but it wasn’t easy.
I was mainly a special ed teachers aide that taught on occasion
I did this for over 25 years
My diagnosis during the time I taught was bipolar disorder and I told human resources about my mental illness challenges.
@freakonaleash was a professor at a college.
So yes it’s possible
I was kids’ art teacher for a short period of time and it was the best. I loved it very much. I hid my illness from everybody and it got really hard. After this experience I decided to apply for disability pension. If I wasn’t ill, I would be kids’ art teacher. Teaching is a great job. I hope you can make it.
My Art teacher in secondary school was the best. She always encouraged creativity and expression and it really left a strong imprint on me. Such a lovely lady, - one of the greats of my teachers
Depends on whether you’re having delusions about people around you
You know how it is, when life is without delusions, you feel more than capable. But when they creep back - suddenly even standing in front of others becomes a scare
I would plan towards a future that involves yourself living the way you want to live
I tried to like your post, but I ran out of likes
I’m more and more drawn to this idea than yesterday. They even have a healthy pension structure. It just seems like a good idea in every way I see it - I’ve applied for a scholarship with the institute of physics, did their mini test thing for it. Let’s see if they respond to me; fingers crossed
Hey dude, I think it’s a great idea but you need to be okay with going into crowds. Can you do that? I believe you can but you’re going to have to cross that boundary.
