I’m not sure which (mainland) European language I’d opt for if I was to. Mainly because German and French compete in terms of Science and that’s the only reason I’d want to learn either. My French teacher back in school spoke high praises of me when it came to subject choices and really wanted me to give French a go. So I kinda lean towards French; plus the history of the System Internationale (SI units) always has my respect.

Yeah English isnt all that

It’s great to speak it. Don’t get me wrong. I’m really happy that I speak it, but I wish I had another language to speak fluently

Utilitarian as in, standardised? I think that’s one of it’s biggest strengths for me because it helps to make sure people understand one another. It creates a good identity based of a shared language alone. No need for extra bits and pieces of cultural traditions to be upheld to preserve the people’s identity. It’s all in their spoken and comprehension - kinda why it’s like the No.1 world language as far as usefulness goes (in my humble opinion).

I was learning italian there for a while…there is a company I can’t remember the name I want to say foritz…or something…anyways…they offered c d’s with italian lessons on them from beginning to advanced.
