Insurance sent me a letter saying that they are going to try to get reimbursed from the woman who hit my garage

As above. They said that they will even try to get my deductible back. NOt sure what to think about it. I mean, its fair. Its not fair that my insurance should have to pay for her mistake.

On the other hand, that group is like a meetup house for like dozens of young people and others. There are constantly like zillions of cars over there.

They may try to take the attempt to collect the debt from them out on us in some way. Whether property damage or whatever. Fortunately I just got cameras up all over the place.

Nonetheless, its a bit concerning. Its not my fault she let her insurance lapse and its not my fault my insurance wants their money back.

id say its out of your hands man. its really not your problem to be honest. i mean if she has some finanacial problems and needs to borrow a cup of flour from you, youre a nice guy im sure youd help her out. But to simply have to foot her $6000 bill for hitting your garage not once but twice… i mean its her responsibility frankly. She should be more careful. Its unfortunate but … thats life i guess. Why should you have to pay it? maybe like if she offered to go 50/50 or something… but just expecting you to pay everything is a bit rediculous. Especially if she has a decent amount of money. She has a house its not like shes homeless or something right.

It actually cost 8500. The initial insurance amount they were going to give me was only 2500 or so and we were going to be 6000 short. Thats where that number came from. But contractor got together with insurance and resolved the disparity. It ended up only costing us our 1000 dollar deductible.

But youre right. It is out of our hands. We have no control at this point.

YEah, they knocked everything out of wack. Knocked both walls off the stone slab and made it so the “man door” (smaller door) would not work at all. I had to use a crowbar to get into it before I knew it was hit. And the roof was unlevel. It was messed up.

If she confronts you about it, just be your usual kind self. Apologize and say it’s the insurance company that’s suing and not you. Tell her it’s out of your control. She’ll be upset still but it might lessen the blow. You could even go as far as to save the letter and show it as proof that it’s them and not you. I’m sorry you’re going through this
