I went there to use the Coinstar machine. I turned in all the change in my console in my car and got $57. While I was there I knew Safeway was having a sale on Lindt dark chocolate; a 3.5 oz bar usually cost $5.99 but on sale they were $4 apiece. I eat dark chocolate mainly because in moderation it’s good for the heart and helps prevent certain cancers and has other vitamins and minerals if you buy the 85% cocoa type. I eat two squares a day and of course it’s a great because it tastes good.
I picked up 6 bars and when I went through the checkout line it looked like she charge me full price. I pointed that out to the checker and she insisted I got the sale. I had my Coinstar receipt which was good for the $57 and she gave me $18 change. I had the feeling something wasn’t right and when I got out to the car I checked my receipt and something didn’t look right so I went back inside to that cashier. She told me to take my receipt to customer service which I did and waited in line. When the lady got to me I pointed out the mistake and she said “Oh, you were supposed to enter your phone number in the debit card machine to get the discount.” And so I entered my number and she gave me $19. $19 is a good sum of money and I wouldn’t have got it if I hadn’t checked my receipt carefully. I’ve been overcharged before and sometimes it’s the grocery store fault and sometimes it’s mine but I always check my receipt before I drive off and have caught mistakes by the grocery store several times. Check your receipts people!
