I am on abilify which I believe is weight neutral. However has anyone else found mirtazapine to increase your weight.
I am thinking of going off it cold turkey. The psychiatrist knows I want to come off it and will do it gradually but I don’t see them until another 6 months. It was originally prescribed for anxiety. It did help initially for sleep. The psychiatrist said if the dose is reduced it will increase appetite. Is this true?
What symptoms can I expect if I come off it suddenly do people find for those that have come off it either gradually or suddenly?
Mirtazapine is well known for weight gain and sedation. It is not a well tolerated and adhered to drug.
You should taper your usage and have medical supervision when going off. Some meds play havoc with some bodily systems that are regulated with neurochemistry when you go off. Ive been suffering for years with an esophageal problem from going off invega.
Thank you for your response. Your concerns have been noted. The information says that due to it’s long half life symptoms of withdrawal can take longer but usually begin after 2-4 days but not everyone experieces withdrawal like increased anxiety rebound insomnia, nausea etc.
My doctor says mirtazepine is specifically used in people with eating disorders to increase their appetite so they gain weight. I was on it for awhile but quit…no serious withdrawal symptoms appeared.
Just a follow up really. It has been a little over 7 days and so far I had a few nightmares in the main and some insomnia. I am on the last quarter of the tablet which is approximately 10mg. I also felt a little irritable which is waring off. The plan is to stop the 10mg in 7 days. I don’t expect the weight to come off so soon which it hasn’t.
Just a question really. Those that have come off it did you lose weight gradually over months?
