My neighbors came over to talk to my Mom and one of the neighbors showed me her cats and said they like to snuggle all I could muster up was a smile and slight laugh I had no words it’s like I’m too under stimulated in social settings or something I can really only talk to my Mom I’m just terrible at talking to people
I’m not good at talking IRL either. You have more time to think out replies online.
It happens, it’s Ok
Irl I can become quiet if I don’t know what to say or we’re in a group
I’m usually more at ease when I’m alone with someone to talk
For instance we send long textwalls with my American lesbian friend but once we did a videocall and became quiet
We stared at each other without saying anything ![]()
If it’s someone you see rather often you can talk progressively to them
First try to say just “Hello” when you see them in the hall
Then if you don’t know what to say talk about the weather, the news in the building, give news about your mother
And if they talk about something else, it’s okay to take a bit of time to answer
For the situation with the cat, if the neighbor start back to talk with your mom without you answering what they said, while your mom talk to your neighbor you can think about what you want to answer and then you can say that when there’s no sound, they finished to talk about something
I have always struggled to initiate conversations.
Me too…
Sometimes it feels fake, my socializing, idk.
I’m terrible at it too
I know that terrible feeling when you don’t know what to think, say or do in a social setting and people are expecting you to engage with them. Just know that when that happens, you’re not alone in the struggle. It’s completely normal and human to feel that way. The important thing is to not let those uncomfortable times define you. Allow your good times to lead the way.
