My son has been referred to the children’s mental health team

I’m having a terrible time with him at the moment. He has had severe anxiety the last few weeks. He is frightened of going anywhere because of strangers.

He is also not using the toilet in school out of fear which has resulted in 3 accidents at school in the last 3 weeks.

I’m just glad my GP took me seriously and now he has turned 5 (on Saturday) he can actually get the help he needs.

He is also awaiting an autism assessment.

It’s a worry and causes me so much heartache.

The assessment team will be the best place to go for an accurate diagnosis. If you have problems too then you will both understand one another and be closer for it

Autism or mental health issues are not a death sentence and you know they are treatable. Your son is getting the help he needs… which is good… I’m glad the docs are finally taking this seriously.

thanks guys. I know its not a death sentence, i just hope to god he doesnt get schizophrenia when he is older. I worry about him

i hope the wait is not too long.

i spoke with his teacher this afternoon, they are giving him additional support at school and trying to help him with his emotions.

I know you know but these things are hard to predict… its really tough to think about… and it’s natural for you to worry… but you are getting him the help he needs now so life will be so much better for him.

I dont think u need to feel bad. Having children is a part of life.

And like @Ish said u are a good mom.

Doing wat u can and as early as possible, to help reduce risks of stuff.

Thats a brilliant mum.

My mum has depression. My dad had severe ocd. I have an uncle on both sides of the family. One with ocd one with psychosis. I have another immediate family member with ocd.

Even after all that,

I still am happy and thankful for my parents that they had me. Even with this illness and wat that entails.

Hopefully your son gets the help he needs . Luckily he’s very young which is a great time to start that sort of intervention.
