I just want to clarify how we are interpreting the old forum rules……… here is the exact section we are going by :
“RELIGION
We know that many people who have experienced mental illness find comfort and healing in belonging to a religion. Unfortunately, many people with psychotic disorders experience delusions of a religious character, and some have had traumatic experiences with religion or with attempts to heal their illness through religious activities such as exorcism. To facilitate recovery, and to make this a safe place for everyone, we ask that users avoid mentioning their beliefs. We also ask that users not get into discussions about their own or others’ beliefs, or lack of belief, as many would find this hurtful or offensive.”
Now, no one is going to flag anyone for saying they went to church this weekend. It’s just a fact. What I believe we need to cut down a bit on is the religious imagary and promotion of religion.
Try to remember that we have Christians, Athiests, Muslims, Jewish , Agnostics and other people here. Even if it wasnt for the potential for delusion related and other triggering factors, we have the potential for arguments and such. It is much better to keep the peace here between all groups if neither pro nor anti religious sentiments are expressed. In the past couple weeks I have seen flags on both the pro and aniti religious side of things. I have seen pro religion things flagged and anti religion things flagged. Both are wrong, acccording to the rules. We are not supposed to promote, insult or discuss religion at all.
Like I said, no one is going to make a huge deal about a generic statement that you went to church this sunday or something but I dont think all the religioius imagary and promotion of one particular religion is doing us any good here. It’s already started to create strife and animosity between certain members.
So , please, remember this is a mental health forum for schizophrenia. There are plenty of places to promote religion where it isnt going to trigger people and where they dont care if it creates animosity between members. We do care here. We want everyone to be supportive of each other in the joint condition we share. Not squabbling about whether religion is good or bad or which religion is right.
So, please try to keep this in mind in future posts.
