Schizoaffective disorder (SAD) is one of the most complex and controversial diagnoses in clinical psychiatry. Despite the significant changes that have occurred in the conceptualization of SAD in modern classifications and the publications of recent years, many unresolved issues remain regarding the disease, from the point of view of clinical psychiatry and basic neuroscience.
Seasonal Affective Disorder is called SAD.
so is sza from what i read
google it
It’s usually called SZD or SZA to differentiate from SAD
Its only a short way of saying sza
I copied and pasted from google this thread topic
Yes, Schizoaffective Disorder is sometimes abbreviated as SZA or SZD, and in some contexts, SAD. However, “SAD” is more commonly used to refer to Seasonal Affective Disorder, so using “SZA” or “SZD” helps avoid confusion. It is a chronic mental health condition combining psychotic symptoms (like schizophrenia) and mood disorder symptoms (depression or bipolar).
My current psychiatrist doesn’t believe in the Schizoaffective diagnosis.
He only diagnosis patients with either bipolar or schizophrenia
He diagnosed me with bipolar disorder.
[Yes, it is considered quite difficult to distinguish between schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, largely due to significant symptom overlap and the need for long-term tracking of mood episodes versus psychosis. Misdiagnosis is common in early stages, as clinicians must determine if mood symptoms are secondary to schizophrenia or if a primary mood disorder exists simultaneously.
Key Reasons for Diagnostic Difficulty Symptom Overlap: Both conditions involve psychosis (hallucinations, delusions). Schizoaffective disorder requires, in addition to psychosis, a major mood episode (mania or depression) present for the majority of the illness duration.
The “Two-Week” Rule: A critical distinguishing factor is that in schizoaffective disorder, there must be a period of at least two weeks where psychotic symptoms exist without a major mood episode.
Diagnostic Stability: Studies indicate that many initial diagnoses of schizoaffective disorder are changed upon follow-up, suggesting it is often misdiagnosed.
Lack of Biomarkers: As with most psychiatric conditions, there are no blood tests or brain scans to differentiate the two; diagnosis relies entirely on clinical observation and history-taking.]–AI Overview
There’s also a fine line between SZA bipolar type and bipolar disorder with psychotic features
Ya im SZA!
I feel for you guys im just dealing with schizophrenia.
I have SZA and I am glad I have got because it helps me understand myself a lot more. Now I know why my previous psychosis which got well treated, mixed with me having major mood swings. Mostly maniac. Is it harsh but it is what it is. The late years I got a lot of anxiety as well.
Guys I want to interract more with you -
It is hard for me to follow the long threads hehe But yeah, I am Alex (women) from Denmark and I am a beautiful wierdo
I don’t really get hung up on labels anymore. I was diagnosed as regular sz first, and then sza. I figure regardless of whatever label I get most can agree there’s definitely something weird with my brain lol.
I have read that sza is milder than sz.
I got dx with bipolar 1 w psychosis, then schizoaffective disorder, now schizophrenia
I have schizoaffective depressive type
When it all started years ago in 2002, I was diagnosed with bipolar, then sza for the first time, then schizophrenia. Many years later in 2018 the diagnosis settled on sza again and I felt it described me better than sz because of my very persistent depression. I couldn’t deny my illness had a mood element that went beyond the schizophrenia criteria. When I received confirmation of my diagnosis I felt at peace.
Sometimes I wish I had sz rather than sza because the depression is so crap to deal with. But it’s just how it was given to me by fate.
They do say that sz is worse than sza but it depends on the severity of the illness. My sza is moderately severe so I’m worse off than a mild sz. It’s all on the spectrum.
That’s very SAD.
I’m on the bipolar schizophrenia scale.
Some doctors saying it’s bipolar with others saying it’s closer to Schizoaffective
just like they got rid of other subtypes-i think they are valid, but getting caught up on labels was the reason they got dismissed. i think the treatment should be highlighted more. i got caught up on the label and what society thinks at first, but then i realized treatment is the main thing i should have focused on, because the way it is managed is different for everyone. my doctor at one point said i pathologize everything-so that is when i realized i needed to relax and realize not all behavioral abnormalities can be explained and should be. the main focus is how you cope and how you recover; maintaining function and independence.
That hip hop artist “SZA” has single handedly destroyed the googleability of my disorder’s acronym
Kind of makes me mad lol
