Question if I might have Delusional Disorder instead of Schizoaffective Disorder

I might be suspicious that I might have Delusional Disorder with mood symptoms, because usually my behavior is not bizarre or odd outside of my delusional topics. I can mask my delusional beliefs and function well in school.

My current diagnosis is Schizoaffective Disorder, bipolar type but something is not right.

I will talk with my psychiatrist.

i think only an experienced psychiatrist would be able to distinguish between them… its hard to tell because i dont know you as a person.

For insurance purposes the psychiatrist may just diagnose you with Schizoaffective disorder.

They basically want to get paid

That’s reasonable

thanks! i think the differenced between these different diagnoses are very slight… Can be very difficult to diagnose even between experienced doctors… its definitely worth asking tho… to get a second opinion etc.

Why wouldn’t they get paid?

Delusional disorder is not considered as important ?

Insurance companies like to insure more popular mental illnesses

It really depends on the insurance company

I ask the same thing, it’s technically a psychotic disorder

I was doing cardio exercises with my brother for about an hour, I feel much better now

Although I might still be have sleeping problems, hypomania or mania doesn’t suddenly go away just because I do I do exercises or workout, but it is healthy and recovery is much easier.

I will walk outside with my dad and have a conversation about what happened to my mental health lately.

I was wrong that antipsychotics don’t work, they do, but working out or doing exercises also helps immensely, it’s like two employees helping each other.

To my understanding, the difference between delusional disorder and schizoaffective is that with delusional disorder there’s no other symptoms other than delusions. With schizoaffective there’s mood swings and negative symptoms as well, and hearing voices or seeing things (hallucinations) and problems with social or school or work life.

The problem is I only had delusions regardless of my mood, I did have hallucinations, but as a proxy of delusions that I had.

Simple possible delusions are delusional disorder.

Impossible bizarre delusions are schizo.

For example, believing that aliens have replaced your entrails, is bizarre impossible.

Believing that your wife is cheating you could be delusional disorder

Was your moods extreme like mania or hypomania and depression? Or normal moods? With sza or bipolar the moods are intense. I have sza and my delusions are there regardless of my moods, that’s why I’m sza and not bipolar or clinically depressed. With sza the psychosis is sometime separate from moods and doesn’t always fit the theme of the mood episode.

@Om_Sadasiva that’s interesting, I never knew that. My delusions are mostly the bizarre type according to the drs. The radio in my head, the spirits in my head, the thought insertion…so it’s a good confirmation for me I’m part of the schizo club lol!

Yes. It’s a reasonable distinction
