It’s always annoyed me that I’m on lifelong medication but I need a damn prescription refill every few months.
The reasons for making you get the refills are probably so you have to contact your dr sometimes, the dr knows youre taking it, and like in every medication the treatment is still legit… maybe more reasons IDK
My current psychiatrist doesn’t give out refills
I think it’s mostly to control the substances so you don’t give them or sell them to other people.
probably also to force you to be in contact with your doctor etc frequently… i think there should just be unlimited refills. im tired of having people try to control my life just cause im sz. Also what annoys me is, atleast here in canada you cant get help with meds etc at walk in clinics. I understand them not wanting to prescribe meds to new patients, but they should be able to shell out a few pills if its an emergency and someone has already been diagnosed by a specialist. Theres been times i had to go without my meds cause i couldnt see a doctor (need an appointment which could take days/weeks/months) and the walk in clinic said they’re not allowed to give AP’s
I think we should be seen every few months because we can lack insight. If a drug stops working, we may not realize it. We may need new drugs or different dosages
In Norway there is a good system for refill. You just log into the national healthsystem page and click a couple of buttons and the refill request is sent.
i disagree. I may be sz but im not a child. i dont need supervision. If someone has it bad maybe regular doctor visits should be arranged but in almost 10 years of being on meds, i really havent lost insight once. Theres been times where i stopped meds and i can calibrate and realized when the symptoms are coming in etc. I really havent lost insight since my first few episodes. Its weird that all sz people should essentially be put on parole for life, although i realize its neccisary in some cases. I do personally think its a step in the wrong direction, especially when people are talking about bringing back institutionalization etc. I think its important that we have basic freedoms. Hospital abuse etc is rampant. i think just about every SZ has a hospital horror story where despite being relatively healthy they were confined for months etc.

Yes, I’ve been confined when it’s unnecessary. But I think you’re more of an exception to the general rule in regards to having insight.
idk maybe youre right. I do have SZA which i think the symptoms are typically a bit less so maybe youre right idk
I’ve read the symptoms are milder with sza too.
yea, idk im just really passionate about this stuff cause of hospital trauma. From my experience, if you dont advocate for yourself they’ll just do whatever they want. Laws etc are better than they have been but God forbid they get worse… I think we need more freedoms

I agree. We need freedom most of the time unless we’re violent. I’m totally freaked out by the rhetoric regarding a return to institutionalization too
yea true… ive had family call the police on me etc to have me comitted when i was well etc. all because of an argument. The police arrested me and the hospital assumed i was unwell. ive been kept there for a months etc and put on community treatment orders etc… super fked up stuff so unless being committed or checked up on is absolutely necessary i dont feel it should be in place
I understand where you’re coming from. I was upset when I was wrongfully contained in a psych ward too. It’s scary to have no rights at all.
My brother has threatened to call the cops on me when I was well.

im so sorry you went through that.. its so screwed up like.. i cant even express how damaging it is. i literally have horrible trauma from it. Having to leave home and be homessless while evading police to avoid being hospitalized and forced meds and a month+ stay in the ward. And noone will help, not the police, not the doctors, not your family, not a judge. its so fked up. No one will listen to a word you say because you’ve been labeled “crazy” and everything you say is therefor invalid
It’s crappy that the disease can be used against us like that. Like if we disagree with a family member or they are suspicious about our behavior they assume we are ill.
